If Michelin would award stars to schools…

… we seriously think that we could be in the running! Although we don’t want to go as far as saying that feeding the mind starts with the stomach, there is no doubt that good, healthy, fresh and nutritious food definitely helps.

Excellent, healthy and fun meals

As with everything else at Herne Hill School, we aim for food to be educational, excellent and fun. All children attending for the day eat a hot lunch which is freshly cooked in our state-of-the-art kitchens.

Kindergarten and Pre-Reception children enjoy a ‘family service’ lunch in their classroom served by our teaching staff, and the Pre-Prep children eat buffet-style in the hall.

Superior seasonal produce

We adhere to the principle of ‘getting the balance right’, which simply means having enough fruit and vegetables, protein, fibre and starchy foods whilst avoiding too much fat, sugar and salt.

We feel a huge sense of responsibility to evolve our children from eating still largely brown foods when they join in Kindergarten to appreciating a wide range of fruits, vegetables and plant-based dishes by the time they graduate.

Besides our educational taster programmes, there is really only one way to entice them, and that is with super fresh and tasty, varied food – the starting point for which is superior seasonal produce from our trusted, premium suppliers.

Dietary requirements

We are a nut-free school, and our caterers are highly experienced in dealing with allergies and catering for many different diets, providing pupils who require these with an appropriate alternative meal.
