Our School

We shape futures

On Herne Hill in South London lies a unique co-educational school well known for its excellence and expertise in preparing young children for life by providing the finest individual Early Childhood Education based on a bedrock of love and care. Our ethos, grounds and facilities, curriculum and, most importantly, the experience of our loving and caring staff all combine to make our school the perfect setting for early schooling.

Focus and expertise

Since our foundation in 1976, we have focused exclusively on co-educational Early Childhood Education, the period research has unequivocally established as the most formative in a child’s life and requiring a specialist pedagogical approach.

Thanks to our focus and cumulative experience, and by integrating research findings and best practices from other successful ECE programmes from around the world, we have devised our own, cutting-edge continuous five-year provision to develop our children to their best potential and launch them on a trajectory of happy, healthy and successful lives.

Just the right size

In our endeavours, we also benefit from being just the right size for our focused provision.

On the one hand, we are the largest stand-alone independent school in the country specialising in 2- to 7-year-olds, which gives us the scale required for employing a critical mass of expert early years educators and having state-of-the-art facilities and resources.

On the other hand, we are small enough to enjoy a warm and friendly family community atmosphere in which the children benefit from deep relationships with our loving, caring and expert staff.

A holistic approach

Everything we do supports the development of the ‘whole child’ as we are very aware that all domains of development evolve in a highly interrelated and mutually supportive fashion.

Therefore, we not only pay great attention to the traditionally emphasised cognitive and physical domains, but also to the social, emotional and self-regulatory (executive function) domains as these skills in particular will help our children to seize the opportunities and surmount the challenges they will face in their futures.

Love • Care • Excellence

Our ethos encapsulates our commitment to excellence and our belief that love and care are prerequisites for a top-quality education.

Our amazing, expert staff live out this philosophy on a daily basis, creating an atmosphere which is caring, friendly, fun and supportive, and thereby highly conducive to optimal learning and development.
