As with everything else at Herne Hill School, we aim for food to be educational, excellent and fun. All children attending for the day eat a hot lunch which is freshly cooked in our state-of-the-art kitchen.
Kindergarten and Pre‑Reception children enjoy a ‘family service’ lunch in their classroom served by the classroom assistants, and the Pre‑Prep children eat in the hall (a plated service for the Reception children and buffet-style for Years 1 and 2).
We adhere to the principle of ‘getting the balance right’, which simply means having enough fruit and vegetables, protein, fibre and starchy foods whilst avoiding too much fat, sugar and salt. Our caterers Holroyd Howe are highly experienced in dealing with allergies and catering for many different diets, providing pupils who require these with an appropriate alternative meal.
